Carroll College has announced the distribution of $236,647 in scholarships to 15 students for the 2026–2027 academic year. The awards come from two programs: the Elsie P. Corette Memorial Scholarship and the Roy F. Simperman Math, Science and Nursing Scholarships. Each recipient will receive an average of $14,790 to support their studies in fields such as medicine, nursing, mathematics, engineering, and sciences.

The Elsie P. Corette Memorial Scholarship is now in its 54th year and is awarded to Montana pre-med students who show financial need and strong potential for success in medical school. Since its creation in 1973, more than 221 students have received this scholarship, totaling over $1.5 million. Many recipients have gone on to become physicians serving communities throughout Montana.

This year’s Corette Scholarship recipients are Lauren Tuss (biology major), Baylee Herman (chemistry major), and Gina Leveque-Zapata (biology major).

Twelve additional students were named recipients of the Roy F. Simperman Math, Science and Nursing Scholarships. These scholarships are given to Montana students demonstrating academic excellence and financial need in math, science, or nursing disciplines. The Simperman program has been active for 17 years and has provided $1.7 million in support since its inception.

The Simperman Scholarship recipients for 2026–2027 include Abbie Virts, Elisabeth Lloyd, Liv Pitcher, Jenavie Hammond, James MacDonald (all nursing majors), Carli Seymour (bio/chem major), Lane Wicks (pre-med pathway), Paul Leach (engineering major), Claire Bucklin and Nicole Nau (biology majors), Luci Horne (math major), and Abigail Carney (chemistry major).

“These scholarships help make a Carroll education more accessible for students and families,” said Dr. Jennifer Glowienka, co-president of Carroll College. “They make it possible for our students to pursue their calling here and then go on to lead, serve, and make a lasting difference in communities across Montana. We are deeply grateful to Roy Simperman Jr. and the Simperman-Corette Foundation for carrying forward this remarkable legacy of generosity.”

Combined, the Corette and Simperman scholarships have awarded over $3.2 million to more than 360 students at Carroll College.

The Elsie Corette Memorial Scholarship was established by John E. Corette of Butte along with his children after Elsie Corette’s death in 1971 to support pre-medical students at Carroll College who might practice medicine in Montana one day.

After John E. Corette died in 1994, Roy F. Simperman—a Carroll graduate—expanded support for the scholarship in memory of his wife Diane Corette Simperman, daughter of Jack and Elsie Corette.

In 2009 Roy F. Simperman established the separate Math, Science and Nursing Scholarships program at Carroll College to extend assistance into other critical fields needed by Montana’s workforce.

Today the tradition continues through the Simperman-Corette Foundation under president Roy Simperman Jr., ensuring ongoing support for future generations of Carroll College students.
