Carroll College held a ceremony on November 6 to dedicate the Biskupiak Facilities Building, marking the completion of a project funded entirely by donors. The event brought together faculty, staff, students, trustees, donors, business leaders, and members of the Biskupiak family.
Dr. Jennifer Glowienka, Co-President of Carroll College, described the occasion as “a celebration of service, of commitment, and of community.” She recognized the significant contributions made by both the McHugh and Biskupiak families in supporting Carroll’s mission.
The new building addresses longstanding needs for adequate space and resources for the college’s Facilities Team. The team is responsible for maintaining Carroll’s 63-acre campus and its diverse buildings. Previously, they operated without sufficient workspace or tools to meet evolving institutional requirements.
The facility is named after Butch Biskupiak—who worked at Carroll for nearly 47 years in various roles including Director of Facilities—and his father Walt Biskupiak. Both are honored for their long-standing service to the college.
“Butch’s devotion, humility, and work ethic exemplify what it means to be a Carroll Saint,” Dr. Glowienka said. “To have a building named for a member of our Facilities team is deeply symbolic. It says that at Carroll, we value not only the education we provide, but also the hands and hearts that sustain it.”
The 3,800-square-foot structure brings together Grounds, Maintenance, and Custodial teams under one roof with dedicated bays for each trade and secure storage areas. It provides indoor workspaces protected from weather conditions and spaces designed to improve communication and operational efficiency among staff.
In line with goals from Carroll’s Strategic Plan (2022-2027) and Campus Master Plan, all subcontractors involved were from Montana—with most based in Helena—highlighting local involvement in construction.
Dr. Glowienka shared remarks from a Facilities team member: “This space means the world to my team because it shows that the work we do matters to the campus, and when we do it well, we are celebrated.”
She expressed thanks to several individuals who contributed to making this project possible: Dr. Joyce Stewart; Trustee Mike Dalton; Dick Anderson; former Trustee Garry Brayko; and especially Mary McHugh—a former trustee whose leadership was instrumental before her passing.
“This is more than an investment in infrastructure,” Dr. Glowienka said. “It is an investment in people.”
As part of her closing remarks at the dedication ceremony she added: “As we dedicate this building…we honor what makes Carroll College special. It is the people who give of themselves day after day to make this place a home.”
With its opening complete, the Biskupiak Facilities Building now serves as a central base for staff whose efforts maintain daily life on campus.
