EWB travels to Uganda for third implementation trip

In 2020, Carroll College Engineers Without Borders was able to travel with eight students and two advisors to Uganda for a third implementation trip. The club successfully installed two 10,000-liter elevated storage tanks that are supplied by a solar-powered, submersible pump, providing the school with ample drinking water on site. The elevated storage tanks are lofted 30 feet in the air atop a steel support structure. Three new spigots, equipped with soak pits and underground piping, now supply the boys’ latrine, girls’ latrine, and kitchen with drinking water. Members dug channels and soak pits to aid in the installation of the underground piping. Aside from the new water supply structures, the club provided the community and Water Usage Committee with information on how to maintain the new systems to ensure the effectiveness and longevity of the project. Additionally, the staff and students were trained on how to properly clean jerry cans used for water transportation. Testing was performed on the previously implemented boreholes and the results continue to show great water quality.
