Documents filed in U.S. District Court reveal that Border Patrol agents are actively investigating an alleged human smuggling case involving the Montana and Canadian border.
A federal magistrate signed off on a search warrant in connection with the case this week, according to the court documents filed in the case.
Border Patrol agents connected with the Havre Sector Boarder Patrol office are looking into allegations that residents of Mexico are being transported to Canada by plane and then wind up migrating to the United States to Montana as well as other states.
Agents are following leads tied to phone calls and other communications attached to Mario Dominquez, court documents state. He is alleged to have transported illegal immigrants to Houston from Montana. Agents say a 2019 investigation involving Dominquez at the Washington and Canadian border involved the transportation of illegal immigrants.
More than $12,000 was allegedly paid to him by the illegal immigrants as payment for entry into Canada and then eventually into the United States to Great Falls.
The investigation is ongoing.
