DREW TURIANO FOR CONGRESS: Crow Agency Fire Responds To Early Season Wildfires

Wild

Drew Turiano For Congress issued the following announcement on March 28.

Crow Agency Fire Responds To Early Season Wildfires

Fire officers on the Crow Reservation say they responded to a dozen small wildfires over the past week.

Crow Agency Fire says crews recently dealt with small fires near Lodge Grass, Wyola, Pryor and Crow. A burn near Wyola on Sunday spread to 16 acres.

Late March before greenup is its own fire season, with warm temperatures and cured grasses creating wildfire conditions.

A spokesperson says the fires were started by a truck pulling another vehicle on a frontage road and a few were started by children playing with matches. A fire Thursday in Dunmore resulted from outdoor cooking.

He says response times may be slower as Crow Agency Fire prioritizes keeping firefighters healthy.

On Friday Crow Agency Fire prohibited open burning on the Crow Reservation through April 10.
