The Montana High School Association cancelled all state basketball tournaments amid the coronavirus outbreak.
According to the Billings Gazette, Mark Beckman, executive director of the Montana High School Association (MHSA), announced on Friday that the association has decided to cancel all tournaments.
"The MHSA is forced to cancel all state tournaments as a preventive measure to stop the virus from spreading,” Beckman said. “Although the MHSA is always looking forward to healthy sporting events, the current situation doesn’t allow us to take risks. The MHSA will announce the winners of the semifinal matches as the co-state champions.”
Beckman also said that he couldn’t recall such cancellation of the state's basketball tournament in the last 35 years; however, he said, desperate times call for desperate measures. Beckman said in his statement that all the residents of Montana must comply with the guidelines provided by the Health Department.
The MHSA also said that refunds will be provided to all who are able to bring their tickets to the host facility.
