Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) addressed the House floor on September 20, 2024, highlighting concerns about national security threats at the southern border. He discussed the impact of an open border on American lives, citing fentanyl poisoning and increasing human trafficking as significant issues.

"Mr. Speaker, this wide-open border is a national security threat," Rosendale stated. "It's much more than a monetary problem that has been placed upon the taxpayers across the United States."

Rosendale estimated that between $150 billion to $500 billion annually is diverted from essential services for veterans and citizens to cover costs associated with illegal immigration. He emphasized that while many immigrants seek better opportunities for their families, this situation undermines the aspirations of American children and grandchildren.

"We hear about the DREAMers all the time. Well, guess what? The American children, the citizens, have dreams too," he remarked. "We are stripping away all of those dreams when we continue to leave this border wide open."
