Congressman Matt Rosendale has voiced his opposition to the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) proposed Western Solar Plan. In a letter addressed to BLM Director Tracy Stone-Manning, Rosendale criticized the plan for designating 572,479 acres of public land in Montana for solar development. He argued that solar energy is inefficient and unreliable due to limited sunlight during winter months.
Rosendale expressed concerns about the impact on Montanans' access to public lands. "The completion of this project will restrict Montanans’ access to thousands of acres of public land, which should instead be set aside for recreation, grazing, and tourism, which are vital to our state’s economy and citizens’ livelihood," he stated.
He urged Director Stone-Manning to reconsider the plan and focus on approving coal leases instead. According to Rosendale, such actions would provide reliable energy and create jobs. "Instead of pushing her radical green agenda on our state, Director Stone-Manning should work on approving the current backlog of coal leases," he added.
