The Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has announced the setup of donation boxes across Montana to collect holiday gifts for patients at Montana State Hospital (MSH). This initiative is part of the annual Gifts With A Lift program, which has been bringing holiday cheer to hospital patients for 69 years.
Trent Martin, MSH Gifts With A Lift coordinator, expressed gratitude for the consistent support from residents. “We truly appreciate all the support this program continues to receive from Montana residents each and every year,” said Martin. “It’s been successful due to the generosity of so many people across the state.”
The program is a joint effort between the National Alliance for Mental Illness-MT and DPHHS. Suggested gifts include pocket games, books, socks, winter clothing, magazines, phone cards, craft kits, and other items. There is a particular need for winter coats in sizes M-3X.
Those interested in adopting a patient can contact Trent Martin at 406-693-5279. Gifts should be mailed unwrapped but donations of wrapping paper are welcome. "Please include a name and address in the package and a return receipt so we may acknowledge the arrival of your gifts," Martin advised.
Donations can be sent to Gifts With A Lift c/o Trent Martin at PO Box 300, Montana State Hospital, Warm Springs, MT 59756. The deadline for gift delivery is December 10th.
Montana State Hospital serves as the only publicly operated inpatient psychiatric facility in Montana, providing treatment to adults with serious mental illnesses referred from various institutions across the state.
