The Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has announced a voluntary recall of certain infant formula products by Abbott, the maker of Similac formulas. This recall is due to concerns over possible contamination at a manufacturing facility in Michigan.
The affected formulas have been distributed in stores throughout Montana. Families using infant formula are advised to check their purchases against the recall lot numbers. More details are available at similacrecall.com. The products in question include several powdered brands, identifiable by the lot number on the can's bottom.
According to the FDA, consumers should not use Similac, Alimentum, or EleCare powdered infant formulas if they match the recalled lots. However, Similac Isomil, NeoSure, concentrated liquids, and ready-to-feed options are not included in this recall.
DPHHS Director Adam Meier stated: “Our message to Montanans is to take time to check if this product is in their possession, and if so, discard it.”
For those participating in WIC whose products are affected by this recall, usage is discouraged. Further information can be accessed via the Montana WIC website.
