The Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) is urging child care providers in Montana to apply for the Child Care Stabilization funds during the final application period from July 1 to July 31, 2022. The online application will be accessible at childcare.mt.gov starting July 1. DPHHS estimates that approximately 350 child care providers are still eligible for this funding.
"We encourage Montana eligible child care providers, who haven’t done so, to apply for stabilization funds in July," stated Adam Meier, Director of DPHHS. "Since this funding was first offered in 2021, we’re pleased that over 500 providers have taken advantage of this opportunity. And, we know there’s several hundred still eligible to apply."
The funding originates from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021. Following recommendations from Montana’s ARPA Health Advisory Commission, Governor Greg Gianforte allocated $61 million to enhance access to quality child care services for families in Montana.
To date, 58% of the allocated funding has been obligated. DPHHS has awarded stabilization funds to 502 child care providers who serve nearly 13,000 children across Montana.
Registered and licensed child care providers can submit their applications online by visiting childcare.mt.gov. Applicants must maintain good standing with DPHHS Child Care Licensing by September 1, 2022, to qualify for the funding.
Grant funds can be used for various purposes including mental health support for children and providers through the grant application process.
