The Behavioral Health System for Future Generations Commission will convene in Billings this week. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 11, from noon to 5:30 p.m., and Friday, January 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be held at the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch in the Robbie Chapel.
The focus of the sessions will be on children's mental health system capacity, along with family and caregiver supports. Meeting materials, including an agenda, are available online on the commission's page. The public can attend in person or remotely via Zoom through the BHSFG or Montana Legislature websites.
Governor Greg Gianforte signed House Bill 872 into law in June, marking a $300 million investment to reform Montana’s behavioral health and developmental disabilities service systems. This represents the largest investment of its kind in the state's history.
Commission members include service providers, legislators, and Department of Public Health and Human Services officials. They are tasked with preparing and presenting recommendations for behavioral health and developmental disabilities reform to the governor, which includes funding priorities.
The commission meets approximately every six weeks to gather insights from DPHHS, service providers, and community stakeholders who have experience with individuals living with behavioral health conditions or developmental disabilities. Public comment is encouraged during these meetings.
Future meetings are planned across various locations throughout Montana.
