Today, Congressman Matt Rosendale participated in a House Committee on Natural Resources Subcommittee hearing concerning the Crow Revenue Act. During the session, he articulated the importance of Bull Mountains Mine and its coal production to Montana. He highlighted its significance for the Crow Tribe and their essential functions.
Rosendale remarked, "The Crow Revenue Act is critical for ensuring the continued operation of the Bull Mountains Mine, providing stability, and alleviating concerns about its potential closure." He stressed that coal production from this mine is vital for maintaining jobs and generating tax revenue necessary for government services in Montana.
Rosendale expressed concern over administrative efforts to limit coal production in Montana. He noted that these actions could have broad impacts on energy access at state, national, and global levels. In 2023 alone, coal royalties from Montana state trust lands contributed $46 million to public schools. According to Rosendale, losing these funds would result in severe shortages and force challenging decisions that might affect education quality.
