Congressman Troy Downing, representing Montana, has recently made several announcements on social media regarding legislative actions and land management issues.

On December 17, 2025, Downing stated his position on the management of certain wilderness study areas in Montana. He wrote, “Land management must be fit for purpose, and the science shows that the Hoodoo Mountain, Wales Creek, and Middle Fork Judith Wilderness Study Areas would be better served without their WSA designations. Proud to join my Montana colleagues in support of this common sense bill.”

The following day, Downing highlighted the passage of a key piece of legislation he sponsored. On December 18, 2025, he posted, “PASSED My Protecting Private Job Creators Act, which protects American jobs and provides regulatory clarity for the U.S. market for fixed income securities, passed @FinancialCmte today in a bipartisan vote.” In a separate post at the same time, he added: ” Read more about the Protecting Private Job Creators Act https://t.co/0eVg4ybb4E”

The Protecting Private Job Creators Act aims to reduce regulatory uncertainty for private companies raising capital through fixed income securities offerings. The act was advanced by the House Financial Services Committee with bipartisan support.

Wilderness Study Areas (WSAs) like Hoodoo Mountain, Wales Creek, and Middle Fork Judith are federal lands identified as having potential for wilderness designation but not yet formally designated as such. Proposals to remove these designations have been part of ongoing debates over how best to balance conservation with economic activity and local input.
