Montana Department of Environmental Quality issued the following announcement on April 15.
The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has issued its Decision Document for Montana Limestone Resources, LLC’s proposed limestone quarry and lime plant. The quarry and plant would be located about 2.5 miles west of Drummond, Mont., in Granite County.
Montana Limestone Resources submitted an application to DEQ for an operating permit under the Metal Mine Reclamation Act.
DEQ analyzed the project under the Montana Environmental Policy Act and issued a Final Environmental Assessment on March 6, 2020. The Final Environmental Assessment analyzed the potential impacts from the proposed project and alternatives to the project. DEQ has selected the proposed action as its preferred alternative.
Today’s Decision Document is a public notice identifying DEQ’s decision, the reasons behind the decision and any special conditions associated with the decision and its implementation. In addition, the Decision Document lays out the stipulations that Montana Limestone Resources will be required to meet. DEQ added stipulations to the Decision Document to ensure that the approved construction and mining activities are completed in accordance with the Clean Air Act of Montana and the Montana Water Quality Act.
DEQ appreciates the public’s participation in the Montana Limestone Resources project. The Decision Document has been posted on DEQ's website at: http://deq.mt.gov/public/ea/hardrock
