Recent studies suggest that Montana ranks near the bottom of a list that compares the availability of broadband internet in the nation.
However, these studies often paint the state with a broad brush. To better appreciate the difficulties Montana faces, the Montana State Library is spearheading a group of allies to gather data for the National Broadband Availability Map.
“The Montana State Library is known statewide as the source for mapping information about Montana,” State Librarian Jennie Stapp said in a press release. “Broadband is critical to the future of our state and having more detailed information about where broadband is and is not available will help Montana to create more informed strategies to address this need.”
General manager Geoff Feiss said the Montana Telecommunications Association recognizes that mapping is critical to understanding where to invest in broadband infrastructure.
"We look forward to this partnership,” Feiss said.
