Cost of college went up for all students at Highlands College of Montana Tech

In-state tuition and fees rose 6.5 percent for 2018-19 at Highlands College of Montana Tech, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Montana residents paid $3,569 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $218 more than the $3,351 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 162.6 percent more than residents this year, or $9,371. Their price tag grew 4.4 percent from $8,974 in 2017-18.

About 90 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Montana residents. And about 10 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 85 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 91 students received grants or scholarships totaling $371,502 and 72 students took out student loans totaling more than $335,059.

Including all undergraduates (739), 302 students used grants or scholarships totaling $1.4 million, and 235 students took out $1.4 million in federal student loans.
