The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Montana is pushing for nominations to the Resource Advisory Council (RAC), which is a citizen-led initiative designed to produce recommendations for the allocation of resources when it comes to public land matters, according to its website.
The RAC currently has three vacancies, which the BLM is looking to have filled by community members and those with a special interest in the use of public land.
These councils are considered essential for the BLM to be able to issue regulations and initiatives that will be beneficial to the public. Individuals will be able to nominate themselves or choose to nominate others for the positions. Those that are nominated will go through a vetting process to review their credentials, education and experience that may make them relevant to the position and suitable for the task at hand.
“Resource Advisory Councils provide the BLM with vital feedback on current issues, concerns and proposals, and enable us to engage local communities and stakeholders to improve our management of public lands. Our goal is to ensure that the membership of every RAC encompasses a variety of perspectives and backgrounds to guide our work as effectively as possible," BLM District Manager Katie Stevens said.
