In a bicameral press conference held today in Washington, D.C., Congressman Matt Rosendale, along with several other lawmakers, urged the Biden Administration to take immediate action to address the mounting debt and the open southern border. Rosendale emphasized the gravity of these issues, stating, "They both are posing not just financial burdens, but national security threats that are real."
During the press conference, Rosendale highlighted the alarming increase in illegal border crossings and the dangers associated with it. He expressed concern about the exploitation of individuals entering the country illegally, stating, "Every single person that comes into this country illegally has got a financial obligation to pay to the cartel and they're being forced into slavery and servitude for years to come."
Rosendale further drew attention to the devastating impact of fentanyl, a dangerous opioid, stating, "We know it's coming in from the Mexican border. We know that the components are coming from China. That boils down to about 350 people a day." He drew a stark comparison, suggesting that if an aircraft were to crash and cause 350 deaths a day, the government would take immediate action.
The congressman also raised concerns about national security, citing instances of terrorists entering the country illegally. He shared a recent incident where 10,000 illegal immigrants were detained, of which 200 were identified as individuals of special interest. However, these individuals were released and dispersed throughout the country, raising concerns about their intentions and potential threats.
Rosendale emphasized that these issues pose an imminent threat to national security and called on his colleagues to prioritize securing the border. He stated, "This is our obligation. Everybody swore to uphold and defend the Constitution - and the largest obligation that we have as Members of Congress is to secure our nation."
To address the pressing concerns, Rosendale outlined two potential courses of action. The first is the passage of HR 2, currently in the Senate, which focuses on border security. The second involves introducing a range of immigration policies aimed at securing the border.
The congressman's plea for urgent action culminated in a vow from the group of lawmakers to withhold additional funding for the federal government until concrete steps are taken to secure the border. Rosendale concluded, "This is our opportunity to do so. Right now. When these two major issues come together."
The press conference served as a platform for lawmakers to address the pressing issues of national security and mounting debt. With the southern border crisis continuing to escalate, it remains to be seen how the Biden Administration will respond to these calls for action.
