Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) recently expressed his opposition to the Senate Amendment to H.R. 3935, The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2024. Despite the bill's protection of the Essential Air Service, a critical element for Montana, Rosendale could not support the proposed $10 billion cost increase over the next five years. He also took issue with grants aimed at diversity, equity, and inclusion programs that prioritize minorities and women over merit-based grant and training programs. Furthermore, he criticized the legislation for its failure to address the severe pilot shortage.
Rep. Rosendale voiced his concerns about the implications of this legislation on aviation safety in America. "The unconscionable cost increase and woke programs included in this year’s FAA reauthorization are unnecessary and jeopardize the safety of aviation in our country," said Rep. Rosendale. "If Essential Air Service had been protected in a streamlined package instead of this pork-laden legislation I would have happily voted to protect it."
