WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) addressed the House floor in support of his Amendment 52 to the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement Act and National Defense Authorization for Fiscal Year 2025. The amendment seeks to prohibit TRICARE and the Department of Defense from covering and providing gender transition surgeries and hormone treatments for individuals who identify as transgender.
In his remarks, Rosendale stated: "This does nothing to help our troops continue to be the most effective fighting force on earth and is nothing but a distraction and a waste of valuable taxpayer dollars…The Department of Defense has spent millions of dollars on these surgeries, and they do nothing to help our service members. The question that must be asked is whether having people who identify as trans makes the United States a more lethal force and whether it helps recruit the best and most effective talent. The answer is a clear and resounding NO!"
