BABB, MT - Today, Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) was alerted by the Milk River Irrigation Project Joint Board of Control that the St. Mary Canal suffered a catastrophic failure while Reclamation personnel were monitoring a crack.

There were no injuries reported, but the damage is extensive. The canal was shut down before the failure, but the hillside, Hook's Hide-Away bar, hotel, and roping arena have all been significantly impacted.

A Joint Board of Control meeting will be held in Malta at 6:00 pm on June 18th to provide updates after reclamation engineers assess the situation.

Rep. Rosendale is already in contact with the Milk River Project and he and his office are available to answer any questions. Authorities ask everyone to stay out of the area while the damage is still being evaluated.

“Thankfully no Montanans were injured in this catastrophe earlier today,” said Rep. Rosendale. “While the Biden Admin sends billions to Ukraine they refuse to invest in critical infrastructure here at home. Biden’s New Green Deal is Welfare for the Wealthy! Not wise infrastructure investments!”
