The Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) is inviting Montanans to join its Community First Choice (CFC) Advisory Council. The council consists of 15 members and aims to provide guidance to DPHHS on various aspects, including the development and implementation of the CFC State Plan, quality assurance strategies, and enhancing member self-direction, choice, and satisfaction with program services.

According to federal regulations, the council must include a majority of individuals with disabilities, older adults, and their representatives. Meetings are held virtually on a quarterly basis with additional subcommittee meetings in between.

The CFC program focuses on offering in-home assistance for individuals with disabilities and older adults. It emphasizes consumer control, self-determination, and independent living by allowing individuals to manage their own care as much as possible. These services are essential for many individuals to live independently in their homes and engage with their communities.

Michelle Christensen, DPHHS Community Services Section Supervisor, stated: “Whether you are a longtime participant in these services, a family member of someone receiving services, a representative of a provider agency or an interested party, we value your perspective and believe that your involvement can play a pivotal role in the growth and development of the CFC program.”

Individuals who receive CFC services or family members interested in joining or learning more about the council are encouraged to contact Gloria Garceau-Glaser at 406-941-0250 or Michelle Christensen at 406-270-4211.
