The Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) is urging veterans in Montana to participate in an online survey aimed at gathering information on long-term care needs. This initiative, known as the Veterans’ Long-Term Care Needs Survey, was authorized by House Bill 264, signed by Governor Greg Gianforte in April 2023.

"The goal of the survey is to thoroughly examine Montana’s veteran population demographics, assess the current state of long-term care services, and evaluate future needs," stated Barb Smith, Senior and Long Term Care (SLTC) administrator.

The survey is accessible online at veteransurvey.mt.gov with a participation deadline extended to May 31, 2024. It aims to assess requirements for nursing home care, domiciliary services, Alzheimer's disease support, community and in-home care services. Additionally, it will consider the condition and capacity of veteran cemeteries in Montana.

"Valuable insight from survey participants will help us tailor our services more effectively, ensuring they meet the real and evolving needs of our veteran population," Smith added. She encouraged individuals needing assistance with the survey to contact local veteran organizations.

The SLTC is conducting this assessment alongside the Montana Veteran’s Affairs Division. For those preferring a hard copy version of the survey, it can be downloaded for mailing purposes.

A comprehensive report based on the findings will be presented to the State Administration and Veterans’ Affairs Interim Committee in September.
