Congressman Matt Rosendale of Montana's 2nd District has voiced his opposition to the Senate amendment to H.R. 5009, known as the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 (NDAA). The congressman voted against the bill, citing concerns over what he perceives as failures in addressing certain military policies.
In a statement following his vote, Rep. Rosendale emphasized his appreciation for servicemembers who defend American freedoms but expressed disapproval of specific practices funded by the military. "Our military is the most effective fighting force in the world, and anything that does not help support that mission is a distraction," he stated. He further criticized the NDAA for not terminating "the current military abortion travel policy" and for continuing "biased diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and positions at the Pentagon."
Rosendale also highlighted his objections to taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for those serving in the military and condemned what he described as "the heinous practice of indefinite detainment of American citizens." He concluded by labeling the legislation as both "unserious" and "unconstitutional."
