Mountain lion activity has been confirmed on Mount Helena, particularly in the vicinity of Tubbs Trailhead and Silverette Gate near LeGrande Cannon Boulevard. As a precaution, warning signs are being placed at nearby trailheads to alert residents and visitors. Authorities urge individuals to exercise caution when using the City's Open Lands.

To ensure safety, it is advised that people avoid hiking or running alone, keep pets leashed, maintain children close by, and carry deterrent devices such as capsicum spray.

In case of an encounter with a mountain lion, it is recommended to slowly back away without running. Individuals should attempt to appear larger by raising their arms or waving a jacket steadily while maintaining eye contact with the animal. It is also suggested to talk or yell loudly during such encounters.
