Carroll College and Broadwater Elementary School in Helena have developed a mutually beneficial partnership over the years, emphasizing community collaboration. Dr. Kathy Gilboy from Carroll's Education Department has been instrumental in leading initiatives to support Broadwater students and families. These efforts include organizing winter coat drives, Adopt-a-Family programs, and providing tutors for academic support.

Carroll’s student groups have also contributed unique experiences to Broadwater. During the pandemic, the Talking Saints forensics team performed outdoors for students, while Anthrozoology students taught safe dog etiquette.

In December, the roles reversed when Broadwater Elementary supported Carroll's Fighting Saints Food Pantry with a home goods drive. This initiative was led by AmeriCorps member Amber Arizmendi after receiving a suggestion from Van’s General Manager Sara. Principal Kellie Boedecker and guidance counselor KC Betchie quickly mobilized their community to contribute items like shampoo and dish soap.

Amber noted, “This was a beautiful example of reciprocity between our two schools.” The pantry now serves an average of 40 individuals per opening with expanded offerings thanks to this collaboration.

Plans are underway for another drive in spring as both institutions continue to strengthen their partnership.

The Fighting Saints Food Pantry was established by Carroll’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) to address food insecurity on campus discreetly. It operates twice monthly, offering essentials without stigma and embodies Carroll’s mission of cura personalis—care for the whole person.
