The City of Helena's Transportation Systems Department will start accepting applications for the 2025 Sidewalk Improvement Loan Program on February 17. Interested property owners can submit their applications online beginning at 7 a.m. The application link will be available at www.helenamt.gov/sidewalks/.

This program assists property owners in adding new sidewalks or replacing old and damaged ones. By consolidating all sidewalk projects into one bid, the city aims to reduce installation costs. A zero percent interest loan is offered, which is repaid through the property owner's annual tax bill over a period of ten years.

Due to limited funding, applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Property owners are advised to apply promptly. Applicants will be contacted in the order their application was received to arrange an inspection for an estimate of work.

Confirmation into the program requires returning a signed estimate to staff. The application process will close once enough signed estimates have been returned to deplete the budgeted funds of $150,000.

Property owners are encouraged to schedule inspections and return signed estimates promptly to secure their participation in the program.

For inquiries, residents can call 406-447-1566.
