The treasurer's office will temporarily halt motor vehicle transactions on March 13 and 14, 2025. Butte-Silver Bow will stop issuing new title and registration transactions after 5:00 p.m. on March 10, 2025. Renewals and temporary registration permits (TRPs) will continue to be issued until 1:00 p.m. on March 12, 2025.

This closure is due to the Montana Department of Motor Vehicles implementing a new motor vehicle software system known as CARS. The department has instructed all counties to cease processing any motor vehicle transactions during this period. All county offices are required to log out of the current motor vehicle system by the end of the business day at 4:30 p.m. on March 12, 2025, affecting all motor vehicle functions and transactions.

Additionally, no personalized plates will be ordered from March 8 through March 16. Normal operations are expected to resume on Monday, March 17, at 8:30 a.m.
