After summer hires have been cut and other savings have been made in Butte-Silver Bow County, budget officials are expecting to see the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic to the budget fairly soon, according to the Montana Standard.
Within the next few months, the county is expecting to see a $4 million loss in revenue as a result of the pandemic and residents unable to make payments on time.
"I really don’t see in this tax collection (from May) that we’re going to see a big change. It’s more down the road as to the potential of businesses not being able to survive the COVID and those entities dropping off the tax rolls," budget director Danette Gleason told the paper.
But some of the impacts of the pandemic might not be seen until November.
It's because of this that Gleason and Chief Executive Dave Palmer are recommending a neutral budget, which will help people who are struggling and the county.
