WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) joined the House Freedom Caucus press conference today to voice his opposition to the Johnson-Schumer-Biden Omnibus. During the press conference, Rep. Rosendale highlighted his concerns about the legislative process in Congress.
"The process is something that we fought extremely hard for in January to restore regular order in the U.S. Congress because everyone recognizes that this place is broke, and that this system is broken. And the reason that it is broken is because process has been ignored and thrown out the window," expressed Rep. Rosendale.
He continued, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in legislative procedures, stating, "We have seen the consolidation of the power of the decisions that are being made here in this city placed into the hands of a very few, and that is not the way that it is supposed to work."
Rep. Rosendale further criticized the lack of inclusivity in decision-making, saying, "You've got the leadership and the White House making decisions about how the entire country is supposed to be run, which leaves the majority of members outside of the discussion, and that's not what the American people asked for, and that's not what the American people elected."
In his closing remarks, Rep. Rosendale linked the importance of a sound process to the quality of legislative outcomes, stating, "If you have a bad process, then you're going to end up with a bad product, and folks, what you see on display today is exhibit A. That's what it is. It's a very bad product."
Rep. Rosendale's critique underscores the ongoing debate within Congress regarding the effectiveness and transparency of the legislative process, particularly in the context of large omnibus bills like the one currently under discussion.
