State employees in Montana have contributed over 4,500 pounds of food to the Montana Food Bank Network (MFBN) as part of Governor Greg Gianforte's third annual interagency food drive competition. The initiative concluded last week, coinciding with the governor's 12 Days of Giving campaign.

Governor Gianforte expressed gratitude for the contributions, stating, “Thanks to the generosity of our state employees, we’re helping feed and nourish our neighbors facing food insecurity this holiday season.” He also congratulated the Department of Administration for winning this year's competition.

The food drive ran from November 29 to December 13 and aimed to support MFBN, a statewide organization dedicated to combating hunger since 1983. MFBN collaborates with over 340 partners across Montana’s counties and distributed more than 16.7 million pounds of food in 2022.

The results of the competition were shared with state employees by Governor Gianforte:

1st place: Montana Department of Administration (1,049 food items donated)

2nd place: Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (863 food items donated)

3rd place: Montana Department of Revenue (595 food items donated)

MFBN highlights that a $1 donation can provide at least five meals for those in need. The network's most needed items include canned tuna or meat, peanut butter, canned soup, beans, vegetables, dry cereal, baby food and formula among others.
