Preparations are being made to begin the $35 million renovation of the East Middle School in Butte at the end of the month.
NBC Montana reports the remodeling project will provide the school with a new gym, new science labs, better fire suppression and enhanced security. Langlas and Associates is serving as the project’s general contractor and construction manager.
“We’re really excited about what they’re doing,” East Middle School principal Keith Miller told NBC Montana. “They’re basically going to create a 21st Century learning environment.”
The construction of the gym will be part of phase one of the project. The project’s timeline for the project hasn’t been affected by the coronavirus crisis. Renovations are expected to be done by the summer of 2022.
All K-12 public schools in Montana are currently closed until at least April 10 to prevent the spread of coronavirus, according to the Butte School District No. 1’s website.
