Carroll College in Helena has introduced a new Mobile Health Unit aimed at improving health services across Montana, especially in underserved areas. The initiative is part of the college's commitment to providing practical healthcare education and enhancing health outcomes in rural communities. This project was initiated with a significant estate gift and ongoing support from Benefis Health System.
The Mobile Health Unit, a fully equipped trailer for assessments and screenings, will debut during the Mock Mass Casualty Incident training event on April 29, 2025. Following this event, it will travel to various locations offering communities critical health services. Dr. Lauren Swant, the Director of Nursing at Carroll College, highlighted the initiative's potential impact, stating, “The launch of the Mobile Health Unit marks a transformative step in our mission to bridge healthcare gaps across Montana’s rural and underserved communities."
Staffed by Carroll College nursing faculty and students, the unit will offer a range of services such as health screenings, medication education, and mental health support in accessible locations. This reflects Carroll’s dedication to addressing healthcare challenges in Montana, where many residents face insurance and care shortages.
Rayn Ginnaty from Benefis Health System expressed support, saying, “We are proud to partner with Carroll College and ensure the Mobile Health Unit is there to provide educational opportunities and patient care for those who need it.”
Carroll College’s BSN program, approved by the Montana State Board of Nursing, is expanding with the Mobile Health Unit to better prepare graduates and serve the state's healthcare needs.
