East Helena Public Schools Superintendent Update Center

Dear EHPS Parents,

Weekly update - Short edition ( I know I promised to take this week off from the update but…):

Lunch Accounts

As the pandemic wanes and things get back to “normal”, one area that needs to be managed is school lunch charges.  The USDA waiver that provided free school lunches for all students for the past 2+ years has expired.  Families have to once again pay for meals at school.  This becomes an issue when account balances run low and students start charging meals.  The district does not have a credit option and relies on meal fees to pay our vendors, staff, and expenses.  This past week, letters were sent out to families regarding over limit charges.  While the content of the letter could (and will) be improved, the basic situation is that, just like any other restaurant or diner, the bill must be paid for the business to operate.  The district has a charge limit of $10 on student accounts.

The National School Lunch Program has guidelines for federal reimbursement for school lunches for families that cannot afford to pay.  This is commonly known as the “Free and Reduced Lunch Program.”  The allowances have increased since several years ago before the pandemic.  We encourage any family having difficulties paying for school lunches to fill out the application found here.

Winter Sports Parent meeting - EHHS

Believe it or not, fall sports are about over for high school students and the winter season is just around the corner.  There will be a Parent/Student Winter Sports meeting on 11/15 at 6:00 PM in the EHHS gym.  Mark calendars now.

Opportunity to support EHHS Speech and Debate

East Helena Community Members,

We will be hosting a Speech, Debate, and Drama Tournament at EHHS and Prickly Pear on Saturday, November 19th.  We are in need of judges and would welcome your support of this event.   We rely entirely on volunteers to make this event happen as we have nearly 250 judge slots to fill. Judging events is fairly easy and if there is enough interest we can offer in person training before the tournament. Please view the following information for further details.

There is an online form you can use to sign up to judge    Please select the event(s) and time(s) you would like to judge. We would greatly appreciate it if you could get back to us by Friday, November 4th, 2022.
