WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Matt Rosendale (MT-02) has called for a change in Republican leadership in the U.S. Senate following the recent border deal made by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. In a statement, Rosendale expressed his concerns about the deal, which he believes prioritizes foreign interests and leaves the southern border wide open.
"For decades, Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer have been the architects of a $34 trillion national debt and the invasion at our southern border," said Rep. Rosendale. He criticized McConnell for refusing to consider a conservative and comprehensive piece of legislation passed by House Republicans to secure the border.
Rosendale pointed out that the supplemental package agreed upon by McConnell and Schumer provides three times more funding to Ukraine to secure their border than to the United States. He expressed his disappointment in McConnell's leadership, stating, "Mitch McConnell should not hold the title of Republican Leader when he has demonstrated he is more interested in working with Chuck Schumer than advocating for Republican policies."
Rosendale highlighted the importance of Republican elected officials in cutting spending, securing the border, strengthening the military, and restoring energy dominance. He accused McConnell of prioritizing the interests of Democrats and "swamp creatures" in Washington. "I will not stand by silently and allow Mitch McConnell to bankrupt America and leave our southern border wide open," Rosendale declared.
In calling for new Republican leadership in the Senate, Rosendale emphasized the need for leaders who will prioritize the interests of the American people and uphold Republican values. He criticized the border deal as an example of McConnell's collaboration with Schumer, stating, "Just this week, Chuck Schumer claimed he has never worked more closely with Mitch McConnell on a piece of legislation than this disastrous America Last border deal."
Rep. Rosendale's statement reflects his dissatisfaction with the current Republican leadership in the Senate and his belief that a change is necessary to address the issues surrounding the border and fiscal responsibility. As the debate over the border deal continues, it remains to be seen how Rosendale's call for change will be received by his fellow Republicans.
