WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Matt Rosendale from Montana has joined the House of Representatives in impeaching Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Nicholas Mayorkas. Rep. Rosendale, an original co-sponsor of the articles of impeachment, expressed his concerns about Mayorkas' actions regarding immigration and border security.

The articles of impeachment accuse Mayorkas of repeatedly violating laws enacted by Congress and causing millions of illegal entries into the United States. According to the articles, Mayorkas' refusal to obey the law not only undermines the separation of powers but also poses a threat to national security and has had a detrimental impact on communities across the country.

Under Mayorkas' leadership, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported a record number of encounters with migrants in December. The Southwest border alone witnessed over 300,000 encounters, making it the worst month on record. Additionally, more than 1.8 million individuals, known as "gotaways," have evaded U.S. Border Patrol without any documentation of their whereabouts.

The statistics further reveal the severity of the situation. CBP has arrested over 9,000 individuals with criminal convictions attempting to cross into the United States this fiscal year. In December alone, authorities seized 1,147 pounds of fentanyl at the Southwest border, bringing the total for the year to 4,324 pounds.

Rep. Rosendale emphasized the urgency of removing Mayorkas from office, stating, "Secretary Mayorkas' creation of a historically heinous crisis at our borders is fitting of the historic punishment of being impeached by the House of Representatives." He also expressed concern about the consequences of Mayorkas' actions, including human trafficking, drug importing, and criminal activity at the nation's borders.

The impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas by the House of Representatives demonstrates the dissatisfaction and concern among lawmakers regarding his handling of immigration and border security. It remains to be seen whether the Senate will take swift action on these articles, but the hope is that the removal of Mayorkas will contribute to the protection of the nation and the prevention of further crises at the borders.

In response to the articles of impeachment, Mayorkas' office has not released an official statement at the time of this article's publication.
